5 Reasons Portland is a Unique Place to Live

Nested in the heart of the northwest is Portland, OR. People all over the country have been looking for Portland jobs because it’s become such a desired city to live in. Here are a few reasons why.

Outdoor Activity

The first thing you might notice about Portland is how green it is. Because of the local climate, it gets a fair amount of days with light rain, but that just creates an abundance of lush, green wildlife all around. Portland is home to Forest Park, a public park on the west side of town that stretches for over 8 miles along hillsides overlooking the Willamette River. It’s one of the nation’s largest urban forest reserves. If you’re in the city and looking for a quick getaway, there’s massive acreage to be hiked, ran or explored in Forest Park.

Being one of the best Portland hiring companies, we’ve become familiar with the nearby area, and so have many other people. People in Portland tend to take advantage of their surroundings. Hiking is a huge attraction. Just north-east of the city is the Columbia gorge, where hundreds of miles of dramatic hillsides can be sought out, many of them leading to majestic peaks that have gorgeous views of the massive ravine. In just under a 2 hour drive from Portland is Mt. Hood, where, during the winter months, skiing and snowboarding are hugely popular activities. Around the mountain is Mt. Hood National Forest, where there’s more acreage to be explored. Heading in almost any direction outside Portland you can find an abundance of camping destinations, rivers for fishing and kayaking, and numerous other outdoor adventures.. Another attraction is the Oregon Coast, which has miles of rugged coastline to explore.

Coffee

Portland takes their coffee seriously, very seriously. There are a number of local coffee purveyors that pride themselves in sourcing the best, fair-trade organic coffee beans, and roasting them to perfection. It’s a trend that’s sprung up in recent years and isn’t going anywhere. Around just about every corner you can find a different coffee house that will serve you a hand crafted pour-over cup of coffee, fine latte, or house made cold-brew. You can seriously nerd out on coffee culture with a few of the coffee shops hosting monthly tastings and classes on the different types of coffee available.

Beer

According to the Oregon Brewers guild, Oregon leads the nation in the amount of dollars spend on craft beer. 20% of the beer sold in Oregon is craft beer brewed in Oregon. With those numbers, you can imagine the brewery scene in Portland. There are breweries opening up in every neighborhood and even “BrewCycles” can be manned by up to 14 people to take pedal tours of the various breweries around town. This industry is just one of the many that’s helped grow the abundance of Portland Employment opportunities .

Wine

Portland is just north of the Willamette Valley, which is home to hundreds of world class wineries. Because of the the climate in the region, being almost identical to that of Burgundy France, the Willamette Valley has become known around the world for their Pinot Noirs, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay varietals. You don’t have to be a wine nerd to live in Portland, but if you enjoy the spirit at all, it’s a great place to live.
